NEWSLETTER JUNE 2008

SCORE SHEETS
Score sheets are to be completed prior to the match not on arrival at the game. This is causing games to start late.

Would captains please ensure that score sheets are completed correctly before handing these in.

If for any reason there is only one score sheet at the beginning of a match, the match must start and if absolutely necessary use a piece of paper for marking scores etc. One score sheet missing is not a reason to delay a match.

STARTING TIMES
Umpires are reminded that a game must start at 6 30 pm when each team has 6 players. Games are not to be held up due to teams awaiting a full compliment of players. Up to 15 players can be named on the score sheet. Players can join in at any time, so there is no reason why a game should be delayed if 6 players are available to start.

VOID BALLS
If a match is being played at the Leisure Centre close to the fenced off area there is a possibility that the ball may go under the fence. It is up to the captains of both teams to agree prior to the commencement of the match any area which may be designated void.

CUP MATCHES
Apparently a rule had been misinterpreted regarding the use of bowlers during a cup game. The rule in the handbook clearly states: In a Cup match, a minimum of TWO bowlers must be used per team, the match will consist of 30 good balls per innings each, each bowler can only bowl 30 good balls in the game (once a bowler has bowled in the 1st innings they cannot be used in the 2nd innings as a bowler).

CUP DRAW
The draw for the semi final of the Cup is as follows:

Green Arrows v MH Ladies Umpires Lyns/Wharf

Bowden Blacks v HB Ladies Umpires Welford/Nellies

Newsletter

Firstly, should you have any useful newsletter info, match, hatch or dispatch, please let me know for future issues.

New Rules
Most of you will be now have participated in a game whether playing or umpiring. Please note a few points. Once a game has been won the match finishes, even if in the middle of an innings. Previously you would have carried on until the end of an innings, but we are now playing to NRA Rules and it states that once a game is won that is the end. Also please note that the 10 Rounder rule previously played, no longer exists. We now play “the 5 Rounder Rule” follow on.
When umpiring could you please shout out when a “half Rounder” is scored the same as you would if a rounder is scored. NB You only score half rounder at 2nd or 3rd post if you have HIT the ball.
It has been brought to the attention of the Committee that some players are intimidating umpires and if they are young or inexperienced it is unsporting conduct. Please try to keep comments to yourself and ask your Captain to approach the Umpire in a sporting manner.

Score Sheets
Just a reminder to all Captains that the Score sheets have to be handed in to The Nelson.
You might have noticed that when using your Score sheets for Cup Matches that there aren’t any “ball boxes” for counting 30 balls at the bottom of the sheet. Jan will try to produce some for the forthcoming matches. If you do not get one in time just mark your own off along the bottom of the sheet.

Dates for your diary
As you now know the CLIC Tournament was cancelled. However it will still go ahead but a new date has to be arranged. Entry forms for this Tournament will be sent out as soon as this has been organised.

Minutes of the Pre-Season Meeting 2008

Market Harborough & District Ladies Rounders League

Secretary – Marilyn Curtis

Minutes of the pre-season meeting 26.02.2008
The Wellington Suite, MH

Present Committee members - Jan, Flo, Min, Audrey, Pam, Linzi, Jess, Chris & Jack
Also present – Sue Handy & representatives from all teams apart from Naseby.

Jan told everyone that she had been given confirmation that we can have 3 pitches marked out on the Northampton Rd sports ground. She is also trying to negotiate with the Council to give us a fee-free year.

Teams present were asked to fill in their registration forms and give them in to Jan by the 24th March, so that we can get a discount from the NRA.

Rule Changes
Jan explained that we will be playing entirely to NRA Rules this coming season and Sue Handy explained the rules that will affect us the most. These being the half rounder rule (2nd post & beyond), and the 5 rounder rule. Some of the members said that they would like to have an umpire course arranged and therefore Sue is going to take a practical umpire session on Wednesday April 23rd (venue to be advised).

Any Other Business
It was decided that the “200 Club” will be taking place again this season due to it’s popularity.

Divisions It depends on how many teams enter the league this year as to whether there will be 2 or 3 divisions. If 15 teams enter there will be 3 divisions. If this is the case the leagues will be split into 3. The teams will be put into the order that they ended up at and split into 3 groups with the new team being put into Div 3. If however no new teams join then it will be done on the same format as previous years.

Jane Evans mentioned that her team “All Blacks” will be starting practicing on the first Tues evening following the clocks going back and then every Tues following that. She invited along any players wishing to join them.

Audrey distributed new balls for all teams

The meeting closed at 8.30pm..

Pre-Season message

Hi Everyone,

The Rounders season will soon be upon us and I'm sure you'll all be out practising very soon. Lets hope for some good weather.

Jane Evans invites any players to join her team practices on Tuesday evenings from 1st April.

Please note that there will be an umpiring practical session on April 23rd - (probably at the Rugby Club)? Sue Handy will be there to take charge.

Also just to let you know that Jan has now moved into The Nelson and would love your company - so let's support her in this new venture and wish her all the very best of luck.

Tuesday 26.02.2008 at 7.30pm PROMPT

Dear Captain

You are invited to attend this year’s meeting, details as above to register for the much anticipated 2008 Season.

Although only one player needs to register their team we are hoping to discuss and explain the new rules on the night. (This year we are playing to NRA Rules). There will be quite a few changes and it might be a good idea therefore to send along as many team members as you can – especially the one’s who will be umpiring.

Please complete, detach and bring along the slip below on the 26th along with £10.00 registration fee.

We are requesting an email address per team – this will not be published but used to forward newsletters and also committee minutes so that all teams are kept up to date and to keep communication lines open. You can also read or send information to the league internet blog. Check it out!!!! You can find this on http:/mhdlrl.blogspot.com/

Thanks
