FIRST POST NEWSLETTER JUNE 2012
We are now about half way through the Season and the weather hasn’t been at all kind to us. (And that’s an understatement!!) Let’s hope it improves soon.
There have been the normal complaints about Umpiring and Un-sportsmanship conduct. We face them each year but can I remind you all again to be civil and friendly to all Umpires. It’s not very pleasant for anyone and has already put some of the new Umpires off doing it again! Let’s all make an effort to be more friendly to all players & Umpires alike.
However Umpiring can always be improved upon and one of the gripes we have heard is that they don’t always remember to call “Backward Hit” and both teams can become confused if it isn’t called. Also Please remember to call out how many Balls are left at regular intervals. Linzi has brought to our notice that some of the scores on the sheets have not tallied. Can all Captains check that both score sheets are the same before they sign at the bottom. Some Umpires are making an extra column of scores at the end of each innings and it’s confusing for Linzi reading these. You only need to put the total scores in on the right hand side of the sheet and at the bottom.
Information - It has come to the Committee’s notice that not all teams use Facebook and they are worried about not getting information about what’s going on. Well the Newsletter is the MAIN way of receiving info and is sent to all team captains for distribution. If however you have any queries concerning fixtures or re-arranged matches please contact Linzi. Any other queries or complaints can come to me or Jan. Facebook is used as a Social site to let players know what is going on and there is also a “Blog Page” that Jacq looks after and is well worth a visit on mhdlrl.blogspot.com.
Rounders Balls - You should have received your new white rounders ball by now or will very shortly. The fluorescent pink ones are on their way. All teams are allowed to use their old Cliffe balls for the rest of this season along with the new balls, but from next year these will become obsolete, as we can no longer get them. If you require extra balls these can be obtained from Audrey, at a cost of £5 each.
The Home team decide which ball they want to use at the beginning of a match. After they have decided which ball to use, they can only change it at half time unless it becomes lost or damaged. Therefore if later on in the season (when we have the pink balls) it looks like getting dark before the game finishes it might be a good idea to change the ball at half time as you won’t be able to do it after this. We must use common sense on this rule though, and if a ball becomes extremely wet a new ball can be introduced at the end of an innings.
Footwear - As we have been playing in rather wet conditions it is strongly recommended that all Players invest in suitable footwear (eg Football boots). It is a shame to have to abandon a game just for a spot of drizzle because no-one has the correct footwear with them!!
Pitches - Some of the line markings on the pitches at Northampton Rd have not always been visible and Jan has said that she will try to get some spray cans of white paint to the Team Captains who are affected so that they can touch them up if necessary. Also as a reminder the pitches there are to be used on a “First Come First Served” basis. Some teams think that the 1st Div teams play on the bottom pitch and 2nd Div teams at the top but that is not the case.
Just to let you know that Jess Bulley has a new email address so check this with your captains
Events – The Mixed Tournament is to be held on Sunday August 12th at Husbands Bosworth. It will cost £30 per team. Please note no dogs are allowed or barbeques. Your paperwork will be sent to you soon. This Form has to be returned to Jan at the Nelson by July 23rd.
Presentation Night tickets will be sent to all teams with a view to them selling them whilst the season is under way. We hope this will be well attended as it is our “40th” Anniversary.
The Committee are planning to put a Prize Bingo Night on at the Nelson . The date for this event will be decided at a future Committee Meeting.
The Draw for the Semi-Final of the Cup took place at the last Committee Meeting and is as follow:-
Thursday July 12th at Northampton Rd Ground
La Belles V Bowden Blacks Umpires Lyn’s Misfits & M.H. Ladies
H.B. Ladies V Arthingworth Umpires Green Arrows & Lyn’s Misfits
Please note that if you are the 1st team named you are classed as the Home Team and are responsible for providing the ball/balls posts & bases.
Enjoy the rest of the Season and don’t forget if you have any announcement of any kind just email me and I will include it in the next Newsletter.
Secretary Min Curtis.
